James Blake To Auction Himself Off for Cancer Research

NEW YORK, AUGUST 22, 2008 — James Blake, the No. 6 tennis player in the world, is auctioning himself off to help cancer patients fight the disease and improve their chances of survival after losing his own father to cancer in 2004. Blake has teamed up with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NYC, where his father was treated, to form the Thomas Blake Sr. Memorial Research Fund with a goal of raising at least $1 million over the course of the next year for cancer research, especially improving early detection and screening.

Today, Blake along with Men’s Vouge, launched a massive online auction only on CharityFolks.com, which will run until Sept. 5th.

Blake has enlisted the help of some high profile friends and brands who have donated amazing items to the auction; including a chance to hang out with Blake at finals weekend at the 2009 Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, FL., a trip to the Evian Resort in France and a 1-yr supply of Evian, a $1k shopping spree Niketown and tickets tothe first round of 2009 US Open, $5k Maurice Lacroix watch and a Hugo Boss VIP shopping experience.
