Serena Williams Still Injured, No Stanford

Serena Williams has pulled out of the Stanford tennisevent with a thumbinjury sustained at the Wimbledon quarters versus Justine Henin.Williams has, including, Stanford pulled out of 3 tournaments since she lost at Wimbledon.

“Even without Serena, the depth of this year’s field is very strong,” said Stanford tournament director Adam Barrett. “The overall balance from top-to-bottom should make for some very exciting tennis.”

Serena has never won the Bank of the West Classic.

Top seed in Stanford is Russian Anna Chakvetdatze, who is currently the number 8 in the world, followed by surprise runner-up at Wimbledon Marion Bartoli.
